Conservation Programs

The objective of this project is to identify the most important lands in the New River region for conservation. This has been accomplished through development of a GIS based model that layers conservation resource factors on land ownership data. This combination results in maps and an accompanying database that identify and rank high-value Green Infrastructure and conservation lands in the region. This prioritization model is now being used to target high-value private properties within the region for outreach and education efforts by the NRLT, National Committee for the New River (NCNR), Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF), Virginia Outdoors Foundation (VOF) and other conservation organizations.
