The New River Land Trust (NRLT) is partnering with local landowners, the United States Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR), the Skyline Soil & Water Conservation District, and the Canaan Valley Institute to improve water quality in the North Fork of the Roanoke River with an emphasis on the habitat of the Roanoke logperch. The work is intended to reduce erosion, sediment, and pollution that comes from diffuse sources such as agricultural and residential runoff.
The New River Land Trust (NRLT) is the project administrator and is leading the outreach & education effort. This video is part of outreach and educational activities designed to advance environmental literacy and awareness related to water quality, watershed management and natural resources conservation. This second video of three (watch the first video) highlights the stream restoration project from the perspective of the landowner’s grandchildren.
The Canaan Valley Institute (CVI) and the United States Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) are leads for implementation of restoration activities with collaborators the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) and Skyline Soil & Water Conservation District. The project is made possible by support from the Virginia Environmental Endowment’s Community Conservation Program, USFWS, DWR, the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation and the Town of Blacksburg.
