STREAM FIELD TRIPS
The New River Land Trust leads field experiences for schools to visit local conservation easements and communal land projects to explore streams, learn local history, and evaluate water quality right here in our community with our Stream Trip program.
Students spend a morning outdoors, where they practice being scientists, adventurers, and historians. Activities include:
Sampling benthic macroinvertebrates in a local stream to learn about water quality
Discussing land use with a local historian
Building water treatment filters with a VT stormwater engineer
By partnering with the Town of Blacksburg to offer these field trips in Blacksburg and beyond, we can work together to ensure that kids have a hands-on opportunity to learn about our watersheds and stream health.
We are always looking for volunteers to assist with our Stream Field Trips. If you are interested in volunteering, please CONTACT US to learn how you can get involved.
